The RIS3Andalucía 2020 identifies the areas of activity in which Andalusia has more competitive advantages compared to other regions. In these environments Andalusia is committed to focusing its research and innovation investments, the best capacities, the means and the support instruments to improve business competitiveness. All this in a regional ecosystem of open innovation that provokes and accompanies entrepreneurship and that makes Andalusia the best place to invest, work, research and live.

The change in the production model that smart specialization strategies entail requires this regional concentration of efforts towards the most promising environments, towards INTELLIGENT SPECIALIZATION PRIORITIES.

How are they identified? | RIS3 Andalusia

Based on the comparative and competitive advantages, global trends and the Vision of Andalusia on the horizon of 2020.

  • Comparative advantages, characteristics and existing resources in Andalusia that have been identified within the specialization opportunities and that constitute differential elements compared to other regions, both in the national and European context.
  • Competitive advantages, which Andalusia has that allow it to achieve a positive differential in its added value compared to other regions, by being able to offer differential products / services and / or by demonstrating competitive leadership capacity. These advantages have also been identified within the specialization opportunities.
  • Global trends by which the world is evolving in these and the coming years, and which may affect these opportunities in the 2014-2020 programming period.
  • Andalusia 2020 Vision, which defines the destination coordinates to be achieved by the Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization in Andalusia.

What is Smart Specialization?

Smart specialization consists of taking advantage of the strengths we have at the regional level, the competitive advantages that we have in Andalusia, and the potential for excellence of our region. To achieve this scenario, we must align economic and industrial policies with those of innovation, science and technology.

This strategy should not only aim or be based on regional scientific excellence, but should also support practice-based (‘non-technological’) innovation and include the adoption and dissemination of knowledge and innovation. Only in this way can we create new opportunities for economic growth.

Keys to the process

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisc.

  • Identify assets

Identify assets identify unique assets in our region, in addition to traditional and emerging environments where we have the greatest competitive potential. The economic resources devoted to R & D & i should be concentrated in these areas. In this way, we will be able to position Andalusia in specific global markets, and incorporate our region into international value chains, while achieving the objective of attracting private investment, and the attention of international investors.

  • Mentality

Smart specialization invites each region to develop its own innovation strategy and to break down the barriers that prevent changes in the organizational and industrial structure of the region. Smart Specialization invites us to experiment.

  • Build capabilities

We have to ensure that Andalusia's human resources have the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve our objective

  • The entrepreneur

The entrepreneur is the engine for innovation to occur, the entrepreneur can be a researcher, a manager of the Administration, a public authority, a teacher, a businessman, a worker or a student. The entrepreneur uses the resources that already exist but in a different way, improving products or processes. The entrepreneur innovates

  • Connect

Smart growth and an increase in the level of competitiveness for Andalusia will only be possible if all those involved have access to global knowledge, if companies manage to have the capacity to access international markets, and achieve insertion in global value chains. All regional actors must be able to operate in open systems, contributing and nurturing open innovation networks.
